BMW has finally unveiled photographs and video of their latest concept sports car currently referred to as the GINA Light Visionary Model Concept. GINA stands for "Geometry and Functions in 'N' Adaptations", which Chris Bangle, Director of Design BMW Group, admits is a fancy term but provided the framework for designers from both BMW and BMW Group DesignworksUSA to have free reign over the design. This is predominantly evident in the GINA Light Visionary Model's outer skin, which is made entirely out of textile fabric that's pulled taut around a frame of metal and carbon fiber wires. The skeleton of the car is controlled by electro-hydraulic devices and can actually move and change shape beneath the fabric skin. The concept aims to bridge the gap between car and driver and allows the headlights to be covered or 'blinking' at the touch of a button. To highlight this feature even further is a sensor that can alter the waistline of the car to display a more aggressive stance. Although BMW have commented that it is unlikely the system will make production anytime soon it does offer an interesting glimpse into the possibilities of the BMW Z4 Roadster's replacement in 2010. The car is very much a concept, meant more to inspire BMW's own designers and engineers rather than excite the public, but we can't help but get excited. Share and Enjoy:
